1 Kings Chapter 15

Summery

Chapter 15 of 1 Kings in the King James Version of the Bible highlights the reigns of Abijam and Asa, two kings of Judah. The chapter begins by stating that Abijam ruled for three years in Jerusalem, and he followed the sinful ways of his father Rehoboam. There was continuous war between Abijam and Jeroboam, the king of Israel.

In the eighteenth year of Jeroboam's reign, Asa became king of Judah. Asa was considered a righteous king who removed the idols and altars of foreign gods. He even deposed his grandmother Maachah from being queen mother because of her involvement in idol worship. Asa's heart was loyal to the Lord, and he brought treasures to the house of God.

The chapter concludes by mentioning that there was war between Asa and Baasha, the king of Israel. Baasha built Ramah as a fortress to prevent anyone from entering or leaving Asa's kingdom. Asa responded by taking the silver and gold from the treasuries of the house of the Lord and giving it to the king of Syria, Benhadad, to break his alliance with Baasha. Asa then used the materials from the demolished Ramah to build Geba and Mizpah.
