Zechariah Chapter 6

Summery

In Zechariah 6, the prophet receives another vision from the Lord. He sees four chariots coming out from between two mountains of bronze. The first chariot is pulled by red horses, the second by black horses, the third by white horses, and the fourth by dappled horses. The angel accompanying Zechariah explains that these chariots represent the four spirits of heaven, which have been sent by the Lord to patrol the earth.

Then, the Lord gives Zechariah a message to deliver to the high priest, Joshua. He is to take the silver and gold given by the exiles and make a crown to place on the head of Joshua, symbolizing the coming of the Branch, who will rebuild the temple of the Lord and rule in glory. Joshua, along with his colleagues, will serve as a sign of this future restoration.

Zechariah is then instructed to take some of the people who had come from captivity and visit Josiah, the son of Zephaniah. He is to make a crown and place it on the head of Josiah, signifying the crowning of the Branch, who will establish peace and bring harmony between the roles of priest and king.

This chapter highlights the role of the Branch, who will come as a ruler and restore God’s people. It symbolizes the future fulfillment of God’s promises and the hope of a glorious future for Israel.
