Psalms 18:32

Posted on 18 May at 15:18
Listen to this article

“It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.”

1. Context: The book of Psalms is a collection of songs and poems written by various authors, including King David. Psalm 18 is attributed to David and is a song of deliverance, praising God for His faithfulness and mighty acts in David’s life.

2. God’s Strength: The verse begins by acknowledging that it is God who girds or clothes us with strength. David recognised that his strength and abilities were ultimately from God. This points to the dependence of believers on God for strength, both physically and spiritually. It reminds us that we can find our strength in God alone.

3. Making Our Way Perfect: The verse also speaks of God making David’s way perfect. This does not mean that David’s life was without difficulties or challenges. Rather, it means that God enabled David to walk in His ways, leading him on the path of righteousness and guiding him to victory over his enemies. God’s guidance and protection made David’s way secure and complete.

4. Application: As believers, we can apply this verse to our own lives. We can rely on God’s strength, knowing that He equips us for the tasks and challenges we face. We are not left to our own devices but can draw upon the power and strength of God. Additionally, God’s guidance and direction can lead us on the path of righteousness and help us navigate through the obstacles we encounter.

5. Gratitude and Trust: This verse reflects David’s gratitude and trust in God. Throughout the psalm, he expresses his thankfulness for God’s deliverance and salvation. It serves as a reminder for us to cultivate an attitude of gratitude and trust in God, acknowledging His role in our lives and giving Him the praise and honour He deserves.
