“All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name.”

Psalm 86:9 (KJV) says:

This verse reflects the psalmist’s recognition of God’s sovereignty and the universal worship that He deserves. Let’s explore the key themes and implications of this verse:

The Universal God:The psalmist acknowledges that God is the Creator of all nations. The phrase “All nations whom thou hast made” emphasizes the universality of God’s authority and power. It affirms that every nation and every people group on earth are under God’s divine sovereignty.

Worship and Glorification:The psalmist declares that all nations will come and worship before the Lord. Worship involves recognizing and honoring God for His attributes, authority, and deeds. It is an act of reverence, adoration, and surrender to God. Furthermore, the verse states that these nations will glorify God’s name, acknowledging His greatness and magnifying His reputation.

God’s Desire for Worship:The verse highlights God’s desire for all nations to worship Him. This reveals God’s inclusive nature and His longing for people from all backgrounds to acknowledge Him as their Lord. It underscores the idea that worship is not limited to a specific ethnicity, culture, or geographical location. God desires the worship of people from every corner of the world.

The Future Fulfillment:While this verse speaks prophetically of a future reality, we can also see its fulfillment in the present through the spread of Christianity. Throughout history, the message of the Gospel has reached various nations and cultures, drawing people from different backgrounds to worship and glorify God.

Application:

  • Recognition of God’s Sovereignty:Psalm 86:9 calls us to recognize and submit to God’s sovereignty. It reminds us that He is not just the God of a particular people or nation but the Creator and Lord of all. We should acknowledge His authority over our lives and live in obedience to His will.
  • Embracing Diversity in Worship:This verse challenges us to embrace and celebrate the diversity of worship styles, expressions, and cultures. As we encounter believers from different backgrounds, we can learn from their unique perspectives and expressions of faith, fostering unity in the body of Christ.
  • Sharing the Gospel:The verse encourages us to participate in the fulfillment of this prophecy by sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with people from all nations. We can engage in missions, evangelism, and supporting initiatives that aim to reach the unreached peoples of the world, inviting them to join in the worship and glorification of God.

In summary, Psalm 86:9 reminds us of God’s universal authority and the future worship and glorification of all nations before Him. It inspires us to recognize God’s sovereignty, embrace diversity in worship, and actively participate in spreading the Gospel to all peoples.
