Psalms 112:6

Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.

Psalms 112:6 (KJV)

Psalm 112 is a wisdom psalm that contrasts the destiny of the righteous with that of the wicked. It describes the blessings that come to those who fear the Lord and delight in His commandments. Verse 6 stands as a central promise of stability and lasting honor.

The first phrase, “Surely he shall not be moved for ever,” assures that the righteous person has a firm foundation. Worldly circumstances, trials, or changes cannot shake those who walk in God’s ways. Their security rests not in their own strength but in God’s faithfulness. This stability is not a temporary feeling but a lasting condition rooted in God’s unchanging character.

The second phrase, “the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance,” means that their legacy endures beyond earthly life. God, who sees and values righteousness, preserves their memory and honors their faithful conduct. This is not merely human fame but a divine pledge. Their impact and influence continue long after they are gone, because God Himself keeps their name secure.

This promise echoes the stability of those who trust in God, as seen in Psalm 15:5, where the upright “shall never be moved.” Both passages teach that a life rooted in God’s commands carries a security that the world cannot give or remove. The same assurance appears in Psalm 16:8, where David says, “I shall not be moved,” because God is at his right hand.

Believers facing trials can find comfort here. Their steadfastness and commitment to righteousness will lead to preservation and remembrance. No matter what challenges arise, God is with them and will honor their faithfulness. This promise also motivates daily obedience. Our actions and choices have lasting significance. By living righteously, we leave a positive impact on others and contribute to the advancement of God’s kingdom.

The righteous person’s confidence is not in personal ability but in God’s enduring faithfulness. This assurance affirms that labor in righteousness is never in vain. God remembers His people eternally, and that remembrance is their true reward. Such hope frees us from the fear of being forgotten or shaken, because our lives are held securely in His hands.
