Proverbs 15:21

Posted on 18 May at 15:10

“Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.”

Proverbs 15:21 (KJV) says: “Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.”

This verse contrasts two types of individuals: the person lacking wisdom and the one possessing understanding. It highlights the different ways they approach life and the consequences of their actions.

Folly is joy to the one without wisdom:The verse states that “Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom.” Folly refers to foolishness or lack of good judgment. Some people find pleasure or satisfaction in engaging in unwise and imprudent behavior. They may prioritize immediate gratification or indulge in activities that are detrimental to their well-being. However, this joy is short-lived and often leads to negative outcomes.

A man of understanding walks uprightly:On the other hand, the verse describes a person of understanding who “walketh uprightly.” This individual possesses wisdom, discernment, and good judgment. They live their life in a righteous and upright manner, making choices that align with God’s principles and seeking to do what is right. Their understanding enables them to navigate life with integrity and make wise decisions.

The contrast between these two types of individuals serves as a cautionary message. It encourages readers to pursue wisdom and understanding rather than embracing folly. While temporary enjoyment may be found in foolish behavior, the long-term consequences can be harmful. Conversely, those who walk in wisdom and understanding experience the benefits of living righteously.

This verse prompts us to reflect on our own attitudes and actions. It challenges us to seek wisdom and understanding by turning to God and His Word. By cultivating a heart that values wisdom, we can make choices that lead to a righteous and fruitful life.

In summary, Proverbs 15:21 reminds us of the contrast between the joy of folly for those lacking wisdom and the upright walk of those with understanding. It encourages us to pursue wisdom, make wise choices, and walk in righteousness, acknowledging that true joy is found in aligning our lives with God’s wisdom.
