Revelation 7:14
“And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.”
This verse is found within the larger context of the book of Revelation, which is the last book of the New Testament. It is a highly symbolic and prophetic book, filled with visions and imagery, and it is attributed to the apostle John.
In Revelation 7:14, John is describing a vision he had of a great multitude of people. These individuals have come out of a “great tribulation” and have washed their robes, making them white in the blood of the Lamb. This verse highlights two important themes: the suffering of believers and the redemption through Jesus Christ.
The phrase “great tribulation” refers to a period of intense persecution and trial that believers may face. It represents the hardships and challenges encountered by Christians throughout history. However, the vision emphasizes that those who endure these tribulations will ultimately find victory and redemption.
The reference to washing robes and making them white in the blood of the Lamb symbolizes the cleansing and forgiveness of sins through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ. In biblical times, white robes were often associated with purity and righteousness. By washing their robes in the blood of the Lamb, the believers in the vision have been purified and made righteous through their faith in Jesus.
The Lamb mentioned in this verse is a reference to Jesus Christ. In the New Testament, Jesus is often referred to as the Lamb of God, symbolizing His sacrificial death on the cross to atone for the sins of humanity. By embracing Jesus as their Savior and relying on His sacrifice, believers can be reconciled with God and receive forgiveness.
Overall, Revelation 7:14 encourages believers to persevere through the trials they may face and find hope in the redemptive power of Jesus Christ. It reminds them that despite the tribulations of life, there is ultimate victory and salvation for those who put their trust in the Lamb of God.
