Acts Chapter 1

Summery

Acts 1 begins with the author, Luke, addressing Theophilus and recounting the events that took place after Jesus' resurrection. Jesus appeared to His disciples for forty days, teaching them about the kingdom of God. During one of these meetings, Jesus instructed the disciples not to leave Jerusalem but to wait for the promise of the Father: the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

As the disciples gathered, they asked Jesus if He would restore the kingdom of Israel at that time. Jesus replied that it was not for them to know the times and seasons set by the Father but assured them that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them, enabling them to be witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the ends of the earth.

After these words, Jesus ascended into heaven in their presence, and two angels appeared, affirming that He would return in the same manner as they had seen Him go. The disciples returned to Jerusalem, where they continued in prayer and fellowship, numbering around 120.

The stage is set for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the beginning of the church's mission. The events of Acts 1 lay the foundation for the transformative work of God that would soon unfold.
