Acts 5 begins with the account of Ananias and Sapphira, a couple who sold a possession but lied about the proceeds they gave to the apostles. Peter confronts them individually, and both fall dead as a result of their deceit before God. This incident creates fear and awe among the people. The apostles continue to perform miracles and gain favor with the people, leading more believers to join them.
The high priest and the Sadducees become jealous and arrest the apostles, putting them in the common prison. However, an angel of the Lord opens the prison doors and tells them to go and preach in the temple. The next morning, the apostles are found teaching in the temple, and the high priest questions them about their disobedience. Peter and the other apostles boldly declare their allegiance to God and proclaim the message of Jesus Christ.
The council wants to kill the apostles, but Gamaliel, a respected teacher, advises caution, reminding them of previous failed uprisings. The council agrees and flogs the apostles before releasing them. Despite the persecution, the apostles rejoice in their suffering, preaching both in the temple and house to house.
