Daniel 2:22

Listen to this article

“He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.”

Context:This verse is part of a larger passage that describes an event in the life of the prophet Daniel. In this particular chapter, Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, had a troubling dream that he could not remember. He demanded that his wise men, including magicians, astrologers, and sorcerers, not only interpret the dream but also tell him what the dream was. The wise men were unable to fulfill this request, which angered the king, and he ordered that all the wise men in the kingdom be put to death.

At this point, Daniel and his friends, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah (also known as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego), were among the wise men. Daniel sought an audience with the king and asked for time so that he could interpret the dream. Daniel then gathered his companions and earnestly sought God’s mercy and revelation regarding the dream and its interpretation.

In response to their prayers, God revealed both the dream and its interpretation to Daniel in a vision. When Daniel received this revelation, he praised and thanked God for His wisdom and understanding. It is in the midst of his praise that Daniel speaks the words found in Daniel 2:22.

Breaking down the verse:“He revealeth the deep and secret things”: This phrase highlights God’s sovereignty and omniscience. God has the ability to reveal hidden knowledge and mysteries. In this specific context, God revealed the hidden details of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream to Daniel. It shows that God has knowledge beyond human understanding.

“He knoweth what is in the darkness”: This phrase signifies that God has perfect knowledge of things that are concealed, unknown, or hidden from human eyes. It emphasizes God’s all-seeing nature and His ability to see beyond the surface. Even the deepest secrets and the most hidden truths are known to Him.

“And the light dwelleth with him”: This phrase illustrates that God is the source of light and illumination. Light symbolizes truth, righteousness, and understanding. It suggests that God’s presence is characterized by light, signifying His wisdom and revelation. In His presence, darkness and ignorance are dispelled.

Overall, Daniel 2:22 reminds us of God’s unmatched wisdom and knowledge. It assures us that no secret is hidden from Him, and He can reveal deep and hidden truths to those who seek Him. This verse is not only relevant to the specific context of Daniel’s situation but also carries a broader message about God’s omniscience and His willingness to guide and reveal Himself to His people.
