Meaning

God instructs Ezekiel to make a chain, a symbol of the impending captivity and judgment that will come upon the people. The chain signifies bondage and the loss of freedom, as the people would be led away in chains into exile. The reason for this judgment is that the land is full of bloody crimes and the city is full of violence, reflecting widespread moral and spiritual corruption. The phrase “bloody crimes” points to capital offenses, especially murder and the shedding of innocent blood, while “violence” (the Hebrew word chamas) indicates injustice and brutality.
