Hebrews 3:1

Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

Context

The opening word, “Wherefore,” links this exhortation to the preceding argument in Hebrews 2, where the author showed that Christ is superior to angels and yet identified fully with humanity. The letter addresses Jewish Christians who were tempted to drift from their faith, and this verse marks a turn from doctrine to practical response.

Meaning

The readers are called “holy brethren,” a term that marks them as believers set apart by God and joined together in a spiritual family. They are also “partakers of the heavenly calling,” sharing in a divine invitation and purpose that comes from heaven itself. The command to “consider” is not a casual glance but a deliberate, focused contemplation of Christ Jesus.

Jesus is described with two titles that define His work. As “Apostle,” He is the one sent by God to reveal the Father and accomplish salvation. As “High Priest,” He is the mediator who represents humanity before God and offers Himself as the perfect sacrifice for sin. These titles are the substance of the Christian “profession,” the confession of faith that believers hold.
