Hebrews 3:2

Posted on 18 May at 14:29
Listen to this article

“Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.”

Context:The book of Hebrews is a letter written to Jewish Christians to encourage them to remain steadfast in their faith in Jesus Christ. The author emphasises the superiority of Christ and His priesthood over the Old Testament system. In Hebrews 3, the author compares Jesus to Moses and highlights the faithfulness of both individuals.

Comparing Jesus and Moses:The verse begins by stating that Jesus was faithful to Him who appointed Him. This points to Jesus’ faithfulness to God the Father who sent Him into the world. The author then draws a parallel between Jesus and Moses, who was also faithful in all his house. Moses was a significant figure in the Old Testament, chosen by God to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and deliver the Law. Both Jesus and Moses were faithful in carrying out the tasks given to them by God.

Jesus’ Faithfulness:The primary focus of this verse is on Jesus’ faithfulness. Jesus fulfilled His mission on Earth with unwavering devotion to the Father. Throughout His ministry, Jesus consistently demonstrated faithfulness to God’s will, even in the face of great opposition, temptation, and ultimately, death on the cross. His faithfulness is seen in His perfect obedience, His willingness to lay down His life for humanity, and His ultimate victory over sin and death through His resurrection.

Moses’ Faithfulness:The verse also acknowledges Moses’ faithfulness in his role as the leader of God’s people. Moses faithfully carried out God’s instructions, delivering His message to the Israelites and leading them through the wilderness. He acted as a mediator between God and the people, conveying the Law and guiding them towards the Promised Land. Despite the challenges and difficulties he faced, Moses remained faithful to God throughout his life.

Lessons for Believers:The comparison between Jesus and Moses in this verse serves as an encouragement for believers. It reminds us of the importance of faithfulness in our own lives. Just as Jesus and Moses were faithful to their God-given tasks, we are called to be faithful to God in our daily lives. We should strive to obey His commands, trust in His promises, and remain steadfast in our commitment to Him, even when facing trials or temptations.

Application:Hebrews 3:2 reminds us of the faithfulness of Jesus and Moses and challenges us to evaluate our own faithfulness to God. Are we faithfully following His commands? Are we remaining committed to Him, even in difficult times? This verse encourages us to seek to imitate the faithfulness of Jesus and Moses, relying on the Holy Spirit to help us live lives that honour God.

In conclusion, Hebrews 3:2 highlights the faithfulness of Jesus and Moses. It encourages us to remain faithful to God, just as they were, and reminds us of the example they set for us. May we strive to emulate their faithfulness in our own lives, trusting in God and obeying His will.
