Isaiah 22:19

And I will drive thee from thy station, and from thy state shall he pull thee down.

Context

This verse is part of a prophecy against Shebna, who held a position of authority in Jerusalem during King Hezekiah’s reign. As steward or governor of the palace, Shebna managed the royal household. The broader passage contains a message of judgment against Jerusalem’s leaders for their pride and self-reliance.

In verse 19, God declares that Shebna would be forcefully removed from his office. The phrase “drive thee from thy station” indicates expulsion from his position, while “from thy state shall he pull thee down” points to the loss of his prestige and honor. Meaning

Shebna had abused his authority, acting selfishly and seeking his own glory rather than serving God and His people. This removal also prepared the way for Eliakim, a faithful servant, to take Shebna’s place, as the following verses show.
