Jeremiah 23:5

“Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.”

Historical Context: Jeremiah was a prophet who lived during a time of great turmoil in Judah. The nation had turned away from God and had become corrupt, both morally and spiritually. Jeremiah was called by God to prophesy and warn the people of the impending judgment if they did not repent and return to Him.

Recognising Jesus as King: We are reminded of Jesus’ authority and kingship. He is not only our Saviour but also our King, and we are called to submit to His lordship and follow Him faithfully.

Expectation of Christ’s Second Coming: This verse also points to the future return of Jesus Christ when He will establish His kingdom fully on earth, executing perfect justice and righteousness. As believers, we should eagerly anticipate His return and live in a manner that reflects our hope in His coming reign.
