John 10:41

And many resorted unto him, and said, John did no miracle: but all things that John spake of this man were true.

John 10:41 (KJV)

John 10 closes with Jesus escaping an attempt to arrest Him in Jerusalem (John 10:39) and withdrawing beyond the Jordan to the place where John the Baptist had first been baptizing (John 10:40). Many people came to Him there, and their words in John 10:41 form a striking testimony: although John performed no miracles, everything he said about Jesus was true.

The people’s statement contrasts John the Baptist’s ministry with Jesus’ works. John did not perform miraculous signs, yet his testimony about Jesus was entirely accurate and was now being confirmed by what they saw and heard in Jesus. This recognition led many to believe in Him there (John 10:42). The verse emphasizes the validity and truthfulness of John’s witness concerning Jesus.

John the Baptist’s primary mission was to prepare the way for Jesus, to point people to the coming Messiah. He declared that Jesus was the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29). While John himself did not perform miracles, he faithfully proclaimed the message God had given him, and his words about Jesus were indeed fulfilled. The location itself was significant because it was where John had baptized and testified, and the people’s memory of his words was still fresh, even years later.

This verse underscores the importance of John’s role in preparing hearts for Jesus’ ministry, paving the way for His message of salvation. It also encourages believers to trust in the reliability of prophetic testimony and to recognize that Jesus’ works confirm the words of His forerunner. Just as the people connected John’s earlier declarations with the reality of Jesus’ ministry, we are called to see how God’s promises are fulfilled in Christ.

John’s example reminds us that faithfulness to God’s calling does not require spectacular signs; it requires faithful proclamation of the truth. His words about Jesus were trustworthy and true, and they continue to point us to the Savior.
