John 12:46

I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

Context

This verse comes near the end of Jesus’ public ministry, shortly after His entry into Jerusalem. In the preceding verses, John records that many did not believe despite Jesus’ signs, and Jesus speaks of His coming crucifixion. Here, Jesus declares His mission: He has come as light into the world so that whoever believes in Him will not remain in darkness.

Jesus uses the metaphor of light to reveal His divine nature and purpose.
