Context
John 6:36 belongs to the Bread of Life discourse, where Jesus speaks to a crowd that followed Him after witnessing the feeding of the five thousand. The people had eaten the loaves and been filled, yet Jesus had already rebuked them in John 6:26 for seeking Him only because of the physical food, not because they understood His signs. Now He states plainly that they have seen Him and still do not believe.
Unbelief despite witnessing miracles
The crowd had personally seen Jesus and watched Him multiply the loaves and fishes, but they failed to grasp the significance of that miracle. Their physical sight did not produce spiritual perception. Jesus’ words expose the tragedy that clear evidence alone does not create faith; the heart must respond to what the eyes have seen.
