John 10:41
And many resorted vnto him, and said, Iohn did no miracle: but all things that Iohn spake of this man, were true. John 10:41 (KJV)
John 10 contains the famous passage where Jesus describes Himself as the Good Shepherd. In this chapter, Jesus explains that He is the gate for the sheep and that those who enter through Him will find abundant life, and He also contrasts Himself with the hired hand who does not truly care for the sheep. Towards the end of the chapter, in John 10:40, it is mentioned that Jesus went back across the Jordan River to the place where John had been baptizing at the beginning of His ministry, and many people came to Him there. Then, in John 10:41, it states that although John the Baptist did not perform any miraculous signs, everything he had said about Jesus was true. This verse emphasizes the validity and truthfulness of John the Baptist’s testimony concerning Jesus.
John the Baptist’s primary mission was to prepare the way for Jesus, to point people to the coming Messiah. He declared that Jesus was the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29). While John himself did not perform miracles, he faithfully proclaimed the message God had given him, and his words about Jesus were indeed fulfilled. John the Baptist’s testimony about Jesus carries great significance, as it adds credibility and weight to Jesus’ claims and identity. The verse underscores the fact that although John did not perform signs and wonders like Jesus, his words were trustworthy and true. It highlights the importance of John’s role in preparing the hearts of people for the ministry of Jesus, paving the way for His message of salvation.
