John Chapter 21

Summery

John 21 tells the story of Jesus' appearance to His disciples by the Sea of Tiberias after His resurrection. The chapter unfolds with Simon Peter, Thomas, Nathanael, James, John, and two other disciples going fishing, but catching nothing throughout the night. As morning approaches, Jesus stands on the shore, but the disciples do not recognize Him. He advises them to cast their net on the right side of the boat, resulting in a multitude of fish.

Realizing that the man on the shore is Jesus, Peter swims to Him while the others follow in the boat. After breakfast, Jesus questions Peter's love for Him three times, mirroring Peter's previous denial of Jesus. Each time Peter affirms his love, Jesus instructs him to tend His sheep and feed His lambs. Jesus predicts Peter's martyrdom, and Peter, looking at John, wonders about his fate. Jesus reminds Peter not to worry about others, but to focus on following Him.

The chapter concludes by stating that the disciple who bore witness to these events is the author of the Gospel of John. It also mentions that Jesus performed many other miracles not recorded in the book.
