Luke 2:20

Context:And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. Luke 2:20 (KJV)

Luke 2:20 is part of the account of the birth of Jesus Christ. In the preceding verses, an angel appeared to a group of shepherds who were keeping watch over their flocks at night. The angel announced the birth of Jesus, describing Him as the Savior, the Christ (Messiah), and the Lord. The shepherds were initially afraid, but the angel reassured them and informed them that they would find the baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.

After the angel’s message, a multitude of heavenly hosts appeared, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men” (Luke 2:14, KJV). Once the angels departed, the shepherds made their way to Bethlehem and found Mary, Joseph, and the baby Jesus, just as the angel had described.

In Luke 2:20, we see the shepherds’ response to what they had witnessed. After encountering the divine message and seeing the newborn Savior, they returned to their work, but their hearts were filled with joy and gratitude. They couldn’t contain their excitement and began glorifying and praising God. This verse highlights their profound awe and amazement at the fulfillment of the angel’s announcement.

Worship and Praise:The shepherds responded to the miraculous news of Jesus’ birth by glorifying and praising God. They recognized the significance of this event and expressed their adoration and gratitude to the Lord. Their response teaches us the importance of worshiping and praising God for the marvelous things He has done in our lives.

Faith in God’s Promises:The shepherds believed the angel’s message and acted upon it. They journeyed to Bethlehem to find the baby Jesus and witnessed the fulfillment of what had been foretold to them. Their faith in God’s promises led them to experience the joy and wonder of being a part of this incredible event. Likewise, we should have faith in God’s promises and trust that He will fulfill His word in our lives.

Sharing the Good News:The shepherds couldn’t keep the news to themselves. They shared what they had seen and heard with others, spreading the joy and wonder of Jesus’ birth. This demonstrates the importance of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with those around us. We have an incredible story of salvation, and by sharing it, we can bring hope and transformation to others.
