Luke Chapter 20

Summery

In the beginning, Jesus is questioned about His authority to teach and perform miracles. Instead of directly answering, He asks them about John the Baptist’s authority, which puts the religious leaders in a difficult position.

Next, Jesus tells a parable of a vineyard owner whose tenants mistreat his servants and eventually kill his son. This parable exposes the religious leaders’ intentions against Jesus, symbolizing them as the wicked tenants.

Following this, the religious leaders attempt to trap Jesus by questioning His views on paying taxes to Caesar. Jesus wisely responds, “Render unto Caesar the things which be Caesar’s, and unto God the things which be God’s,” leaving them amazed.

Later, the Sadducees challenge Jesus with a hypothetical scenario about marriage and the resurrection. Jesus explains that in the resurrection, people will be like angels and that God is the God of the living, not the dead.

Towards the end, Jesus warns the crowd about the hypocrisy of the scribes who seek recognition and misuse their power. He contrasts their actions with the humble example of a poor widow who gives all she has to God.
