Matthew 2:11

And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

This majestic truth stands in stark contrast to the insecure, earthly reign of Herod.
• Frankincense: A milky white resin, frankincense was traditionally a gift associated with the priesthood and divine worship. When burned in the temple, it produced a fragrance representing the prayers of the faithful ascending to God. This offering beautifully points to Christ's essential role as the ultimate High Priest, the perfect and sinless mediator who bridges the vast divide between a holy God and humanity.
• Myrrh: Myrrh was commonly used to anoint bodies after death and was highly valued for its natural healing properties. Its presentation introduced a solemn, sobering reality into this joyful scene, powerfully foreshadowing Christ's eventual sacrificial death upon the cross. It indicated that this eternal King and great High Priest was born with a deeply costly redemptive purpose: to suffer, die, and ultimately bring spiritual healing to a broken world. The shadow of the cross was present even in His earliest days.
