“Behold, I have told you before.”

Context:Matthew 24 is a chapter often referred to as the Olivet Discourse, where Jesus speaks to His disciples about the signs of His second coming and the end times. In this specific verse, Jesus emphasizes that He has given them prior knowledge and warning about the events to come.

Jesus’ Foreknowledge:Jesus, as the Son of God, possessed perfect knowledge and insight into the future. He often spoke to His disciples about the events that would occur, including His death, resurrection, and the coming destruction of Jerusalem. In this verse, Jesus reminds His disciples that He had already foretold them about these events.

The Importance of Prophecy:Throughout the Bible, God uses prophecy to reveal His plans and purposes. Prophetic messages allow God’s people to understand His will and prepare themselves accordingly. In this verse, Jesus emphasizes the significance of His prophetic teachings, highlighting that He had already shared information with His disciples to equip them for what lay ahead.

Trusting Jesus’ Words:The disciples were privileged to receive direct teaching from Jesus Himself. He was their teacher, guide, and master. By stating, “Behold, I have told you before,” Jesus reminds His disciples to trust in His words and to rely on the knowledge and guidance He had provided them.

Application for Believers:Just as Jesus’ words were crucial for His disciples, His teachings in the Bible are essential for believers today. The Scriptures contain numerous prophecies and promises that guide and encourage us in our faith journey. We should study and meditate on God’s Word, trusting that Jesus has revealed everything necessary for our spiritual growth, understanding, and preparation.

Living with Expectation:Jesus’ teachings about His second coming and the end times remind us to live with an expectation of His return. As we see the signs of the times aligning with biblical prophecies, we should be vigilant, watchful, and ready for the fulfillment of God’s plan. Jesus’ words in Matthew 24:25 encourage us to remain steadfast in our faith and to actively study and apply the Scriptures in our lives.

Remember, as you engage in Bible study, it is beneficial to read the surrounding verses and consult various translations and commentaries to gain a deeper understanding of the passage.
