Context

Matthew 24 is often called the Olivet Discourse. Jesus spoke these words on the Mount of Olives after His disciples asked about the signs of His coming and the end of the age (Matthew 24:3). The Greek word translated “told you before” (proeirēka) means “I have said beforehand.” Jesus was not introducing new information but reminding His disciples that He had already forewarned them.
