Matthew 24:47

Listen to this article

“Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.”

This verse is part of a larger passage known as the Olivet Discourse, where Jesus shares prophecies and teachings about the end times with His disciples.

In this particular verse, Jesus is speaking about a faithful and wise servant who will be rewarded by being made a ruler over all his master’s possessions.

To better understand the context of Matthew 24:47, let’s explore the surrounding verses: “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods” (Matthew 24:45-47, KJV).

Faithfulness and Wisdom:Jesus begins by asking who is a faithful and wise servant. The characteristics of faithfulness and wisdom are highly valued in serving God. These qualities imply reliability, trustworthiness, and discernment.

Responsibility and Provision:The servant’s role is described as being entrusted with the task of taking care of his master’s household. This responsibility includes providing food to the household at the appropriate time. The servant is expected to fulfill his duty diligently and faithfully.

Blessedness:Jesus pronounces a blessing upon the servant who is found faithfully fulfilling his duties when the master returns. This indicates that the servant’s faithfulness is rewarded and celebrated by the master.

Promotion and Reward:The promise in Matthew 24:47 reveals that the faithful and wise servant will be elevated in status. The master will make him a ruler over all his possessions, entrusting him with greater authority and responsibility.

The broader context of this passage, including verses 45-47, suggests a spiritual message about preparedness, watchfulness, and faithful stewardship in light of Christ’s second coming. The servant represents believers who are called to be vigilant, faithfully carrying out their responsibilities in service to God and His people. The promise of being made a ruler over all the master’s goods signifies the abundant rewards and blessings that await those who are found faithful when Jesus returns.

Overall, Matthew 24:47 encourages believers to be faithful, wise, and diligent in their service to God, with the assurance that their faithfulness will be richly rewarded in the future kingdom of God.

Note: While the Bible offers multiple translations and interpretations, this response focused on the context and understanding of Matthew 24:47 in the King James Version (KJV).
