Matthew 20 recounts a series of parables and teachings by Jesus. In the beginning, Jesus tells the Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard, illustrating God’s grace and generosity. He describes how a landowner hired workers at different hours of the day but paid them all the same wage, emphasizing that the last will be first and the first will be last.
Jesus then foretells his crucifixion and resurrection for the third time, revealing that he will be betrayed, condemned, mocked, scourged, and ultimately killed, but will rise again on the third day.
Following this, the mother of James and John approaches Jesus, asking if her sons can sit at his right and left hand in his kingdom. Jesus responds by explaining that such positions are determined by God and should be earned through humble service to others, rather than seeking personal greatness.
As Jesus and his disciples depart from Jericho, they encounter two blind men who cry out to Jesus for mercy. Jesus heals their blindness, displaying his compassion and power.
