Listen to this article

“I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers.”

This verse is taken from the Epistle of Paul to Philemon, which is one of the shorter books in the New Testament. It is a personal letter written by the apostle Paul to Philemon, a believer in Colossae, regarding his slave Onesimus.

In verse 4, Paul begins by expressing his gratitude to God for Philemon and mentions that he always remembers Philemon in his prayers. This verse reflects Paul’s genuine appreciation for Philemon as a fellow believer and his habit of regularly interceding for him before God.

Let’s explore a few key points from Philemon 1:4 and its surrounding context:

Gratitude and Thanksgiving: Paul starts by thanking God. This indicates a heart of gratitude and a recognition that all good things come from God. It also highlights Paul’s focus on God’s faithfulness and provision.

Personal Connection: Paul’s mention of Philemon in his prayers shows a personal connection and care for him. This demonstrates the love and concern that believers should have for one another, supporting and uplifting each other through prayer.

Model of Prayer: Paul’s example encourages believers to follow his lead in prayer. By mentioning Philemon, Paul inspires others to intercede for their fellow believers, expressing thanksgiving and seeking God’s intervention in their lives.

Overall, Philemon 1:4 serves as a reminder of the importance of gratitude, prayer, and supportive relationships within the Christian community. It encourages believers to express thankfulness to God for one another and to regularly lift each other up in prayer, seeking God’s guidance, provision, and blessings in their lives.
