Proverbs 6:15

Therefore shall his calamitie come suddenly; suddenly shall hee be broken without remedie. Proverbs 6:15 (KJV)

Proverbs is a book of wisdom literature in the Bible, traditionally attributed to King Solomon. It offers practical advice and insight on many aspects of daily life, and Proverbs 6:15 belongs to a passage that warns of the consequences of wickedness and dishonesty.

The verse declares that calamity will come upon the person described in the preceding verses (Proverbs 6:12‑14), a character marked by deceit, mischief and perversity. The expression “calamity come suddenly” or “sudden destruction” underscores that judgment arrives unexpectedly and swiftly, leaving no time for preparation.

It concludes that the individual will be “broken, and that without remedy,” or “broken, and have no remedy.” This language signals a severe, irreversible judgment—there will be no escape, no solution, and no chance to reverse the outcome. Their actions have brought them to a point of no return where the consequences cannot be undone.

While Proverbs provides practical wisdom for everyday living, it also carries spiritual implications. The passage highlights the principle of divine judgment for persistent wickedness, reminding believers that God’s justice ultimately prevails. It serves as a warning against pursuing a path of unrighteousness and encourages each person to choose integrity and righteousness instead.

Although the verse stresses the severity of the consequences, Scripture also teaches about God’s mercy, forgiveness, and the possibility of repentance. The judgment spoken of does not exclude the opportunity for redemption. God offers forgiveness and a fresh start to those who genuinely turn away from their sinful ways and seek His mercy through Jesus Christ.
