To call passengers who go right on their wayes: Proverbs 9:15 (KJV)

Context: Proverbs is a book of wisdom literature in the Bible that contains practical advice for living a godly life. Proverbs 9 specifically contrasts wisdom and folly, personified as two women: Wisdom and Folly. In this passage Folly is depicted as calling out to unsuspecting passers‑by.

Understanding the verse: Folly actively calls out to those passing by, seeking to entice and deceive people who are traveling on the straight way—the right path of wisdom. The phrase “who go straight on their ways” refers to those who are on the right path, following wisdom and making wise choices, while Folly attempts to lure them away from that righteous path.

Key lessons: The enticements of foolishness and temptation are ever‑present in the world. Even those who are already walking in the right way can be targets for deception. The passage warns that even those who appear to be on the right path should be cautious and discerning, because the allure of folly can be seductive. It highlights the importance of being grounded in wisdom and discernment so that we can recognize and resist the temptations that may come our way.

Application: Stay rooted in God’s Word by regularly reading and studying the Bible, which helps us grow in wisdom and discernment and equips us to recognize and resist the enticements of foolishness. Seek the company of wise counsel; those who walk in wisdom can provide guidance and accountability in making wise choices. Guard against complacency—even when we are on the right path we must remain vigilant, aware that the temptations of folly can be subtle and alluring. Continually seek God’s guidance and stay alert to avoid being led astray. Remember that the book of Proverbs provides practical wisdom for daily living; by applying its teachings we can navigate life with discernment, making choices that honour God and lead to a fulfilling and righteous life.
