Psalms 139:12

Posted on 18 May at 15:12

“Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.”

11:14:27

Certainly! Here’s a Bible study on Psalm 139:12 (KJV):

Psalm 139:12 (KJV) says, “Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.”

Context of Psalm 139: Psalm 139 is a beautiful psalm attributed to King David, expressing his awe and reverence for God’s omnipresence and omniscience. The psalm highlights the intimate relationship between the psalmist and God, emphasizing that God knows and understands every aspect of his life.

The Darkness Hideth Not from Thee: This verse acknowledges that there is no darkness or night that can hide from God. Darkness is often associated with evil, ignorance, and spiritual blindness. Here, the psalmist affirms that God’s presence penetrates even the darkest corners of our lives. It signifies that God sees and understands every aspect of our being, including our deepest struggles, fears, and sins.

The Night Shineth as the Day: This phrase highlights God’s ability to bring light even in the darkest times. It demonstrates God’s power to dispel darkness and illuminate our lives with His truth, love, and guidance. No matter how bleak or hopeless a situation may seem, God’s light can shine through, providing hope, comfort, and direction.

The Darkness and the Light are Both Alike to Thee: This statement emphasizes God’s impartiality and His comprehensive knowledge. God sees and comprehends both darkness and light equally. It implies that there is no aspect of our lives that remains hidden from Him. We cannot deceive or hide anything from God because He knows and understands it all. Therefore, this verse encourages honesty, transparency, and vulnerability before God.

Application:

  • a. Trust in God’s Presence: Recognize that God is always with you, even in the darkest moments of life. You are never alone, and God’s presence can bring comfort and strength in difficult times.
  • b. Seek God’s Light: When facing challenging circumstances or uncertainties, turn to God for guidance. He can illuminate your path, provide wisdom, and reveal the truth that you need.
  • c. Embrace Transparency: Instead of trying to hide your struggles, fears, or sins, be open and honest before God. Confess your shortcomings, ask for forgiveness, and seek His help in transforming your life.
  • d. Have Hope in God’s Power: Remember that God has the ability to bring light into any situation. Even when things seem dark and hopeless, trust in His power to bring about change, healing, and restoration.
  • e. Walk in the Light: As God’s light shines on your life, strive to live in a way that reflects His truth and love. Let His light guide your actions, words, and relationships, bringing glory to Him.
