Psalms 21:11

Posted on 18 May at 14:12
Listen to this article

“For they intended evil against thee: they imagined a mischievous device, which they are not able to perform.”

Context:Psalm 21 is a psalm of thanksgiving and praise for the victories granted to the king of Israel. It expresses the joy and gratitude of the psalmist for God’s blessings and protection. The verse in question acknowledges the wicked intentions of the enemies of the king.

  • Recognizing the enemies:In this verse, the psalmist acknowledges that there are people who have evil intentions against the king. Throughout history, many rulers and leaders have faced opposition and hostility from their enemies. It reminds us that as believers, we may also face opposition or persecution due to our faith.
  • The power of evil intentions:The verse speaks of the enemies “imagining a mischievous device.” This highlights the power of evil intentions and plots. The enemies may devise schemes or plans to harm or bring down the king, but the psalmist affirms that these plots will not succeed.
  • God’s sovereignty and protection:Despite the evil intentions of the enemies, the psalmist acknowledges that they are not able to perform their mischievous devices. This recognition points to the sovereignty of God and His ability to thwart the plans of the wicked. It shows that God is ultimately in control and can protect His people from harm.
  • Application for believers:Though this verse specifically refers to the enemies of the king, we can draw a parallel to our own lives. As believers, we may face opposition, hostility, or plots from those who oppose our faith or seek to harm us. However, we can take comfort in knowing that God is aware of our circumstances and has the power to protect us.
  • Trusting in God’s providence:This verse encourages us to trust in God’s providence even in the face of adversity. We should remember that God sees the evil intentions of others and has the ability to intervene and protect us. We can find solace in knowing that ultimately, God’s purposes will prevail, and His will cannot be thwarted by the plans of the wicked.
