Psalms 21:13

Posted on 18 May at 15:17

“Be thou exalted, Lord, in thine own strength: so will we sing and praise thy power.”

Psalm 21:13 (KJV) says, “Be thou exalted, Lord, in thine own strength: so will we sing and praise thy power.”

Context:

Psalm 21 is a psalm of David, expressing gratitude for God’s blessings and victories. It highlights the role of God as the source of strength, deliverance, and exaltation.

Exalting the Lord:

The verse begins with the plea, “Be thou exalted, Lord.” Here, David acknowledges God’s greatness and sovereignty. To exalt means to elevate, praise, and honor. David recognizes that the Lord deserves to be highly esteemed and lifted up above all else. It reflects an attitude of reverence and humility before God.

God’s Strength:

David acknowledges that the exaltation of the Lord should be in His own strength. This statement recognizes that God’s strength is unmatched and superior to any human strength. It emphasizes that the glory and praise belong to God alone, as it is His power that accomplishes great things.

Singing and Praising:

The verse concludes by stating that when God is exalted in His own strength, the people will respond by singing and praising His power. Singing and praising are expressions of joy, gratitude, and worship. They are natural responses to experiencing God’s power and deliverance.

Key Takeaways:

  • Psalm 21:13 teaches us to acknowledge and exalt God’s greatness and sovereignty in our lives.
  • We should recognize that it is God’s strength that accomplishes great things, not our own.
  • Singing and praising God’s power should be our response to His work in our lives.

Application:

  • Cultivate a heart of worship and humility, acknowledging God’s greatness and giving Him the honour He deserves.
  • Rely on God’s strength and power rather than relying on our own abilities.
  • Respond to God’s faithfulness and blessings by offering songs of praise and thanksgiving.

Remember, studying the Bible is not just an intellectual exercise but also an opportunity to grow in our relationship with God. May this study of Psalm 21:13 deepen your understanding of God’s exaltation and inspire you to worship Him with all your heart.
