His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth.

Context

Psalm 25 is a prayer of King David, who asks God for deliverance, guidance, and protection. In verse 12, David describes the person who fears the Lord. Verse 13 then gives the blessings that belong to such a person. The psalm moves from urgent pleading to quiet confidence in God’s faithful care.

Meaning

The first promise, “His soul shall dwell at ease,” points to an inner peace and security that come from trusting God. The Hebrew phrase can also mean “dwell in goodness” or “abide in prosperity.” This is not only material wealth but a complete well-being that God gives to those who fear Him. Even in hard times, the believer can rest because life is in God’s hands.

The second promise, “his seed shall inherit the earth,” uses “seed” to mean descendants. In the Old Testament, inheriting the land was a concrete promise tied to God’s covenant with Israel. Here it assures that the children of the righteous will receive the land as an inheritance. God’s faithfulness reaches beyond one person to future generations.

This promise echoes Psalm 37:11, where the meek shall inherit the earth. Both verses teach that God blesses those who humbly trust Him.
