Psalms 25:14

Posted on 18 May at 11:25

The secret of the Lord is with them that feare him: and he will shew them his couenant. Psalms 25:14 (KJV)

Psalm 25 is attributed to King David and is a prayer for guidance, forgiveness, and protection. In verse 14 David reflects on the intimate relationship between God and those who fear Him.

  • The Fear of the Lord – The fear of the Lord is not merely dread or terror but a reverential awe, respect, and submission to God. It involves recognizing His authority, wisdom, and holiness.
  • The Secret of the Lord – The verse states that the secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him. This “secret” refers to God’s intimate knowledge, wisdom, and counsel. It implies that God reveals hidden truths and insights to those who have a reverent fear of Him, going beyond surface‑level knowledge into the depths of God’s heart.
  • Intimacy with God – The phrase “the secret of the LORD” emphasizes the personal relationship believers can have with God. When we fear Him, when we reverence and honor Him, He invites us into an intimate communion with Himself, revealing Himself and His ways to those who seek Him with sincerity.
  • Knowing God’s Covenant – The verse continues that God will show those who fear Him His covenant. God’s covenant refers to His promises and commitments to His people. By developing a deep reverence for God, we gain insight into His covenantal relationship with humanity, seeing His faithfulness, grace, and the path of righteousness.
  • Application – As we reflect on Psalm 25:14, it encourages us to cultivate a healthy fear of the Lord, characterized by reverence, submission, and awe. By doing so we position ourselves to receive divine revelation and understanding of God’s ways, His Word, and His promises. This intimate knowledge strengthens our faith, guides our decisions, and enables us to walk in alignment with God’s will.
