Psalms 70:5

But I am poore and needy, make haste vnto me, O God: Thou art my helpe and my deliuerer, O Lord make no tarrying. Psalms 70:5 (KJV)

The passage quoted is not from Psalm 70 but from Psalm 69:19 (KJV). Therefore attributing those words to Psalm 70 is inaccurate.

Context: The book of Psalms is a collection of poetic and lyrical prayers, praises, and laments written by various authors, including King David. Psalm 70 is a brief psalm of urgent supplication, expressing the author’s distress and calling upon God for help. The psalmist acknowledges their state of being poor and needy. This phrase is not just about material poverty but also represents a recognition of their spiritual and emotional dependence on God. It reflects humility and an understanding that we are limited in our own strength. The psalmist cries out to God, asking Him to make haste. This plea reveals a sense of urgency and desperation, demonstrating reliance on God’s immediate intervention. The psalmist declares that God is their help and deliverer, reflecting trust in God’s power, faithfulness, and willingness to come to aid. The concluding appeal urges the Lord not to delay or tarry in responding, indicating the intensity of the situation and the earnest desire for God’s immediate assistance. Like the psalmist, we should acknowledge our limitations and depend on God’s strength and provision, recognizing our spiritual poverty and need for His help. The plea for God’s quick response reminds us of the importance of praying with urgency and pouring out our hearts before God, knowing that He hears and answers. Trusting in God’s deliverance encourages us to place confidence in His faithfulness, knowing He can rescue us from any circumstance. While the psalmist expresses impatience, we are encouraged to wait patiently for God’s timing, trusting that He works all things for our good and that His plans are perfect. Remember, studying and meditating on God’s Word allows us to grow in our relationship with Him, gain wisdom, and find comfort and guidance in various circumstances of life.
