Listen to this article

“And he shall live, and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba: prayer also shall be made for him continually; and daily shall he be praised.”

Psalm 72:15 (KJV) says: “And he shall live, and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba: prayer also shall be made for him continually; and daily shall he be praised.”

This verse is part of Psalm 72, which is attributed to King Solomon. It is a prayer for the righteous rule and reign of the king, both in terms of justice and prosperity. It is also considered to be a Messianic psalm, pointing forward to the future reign of the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

Let’s break down Psalm 72:15 and explore its key themes:

Prosperity and Abundance:The verse begins with the promise that the king will live and receive gifts of gold from Sheba. This speaks of material wealth and abundance. It signifies the provision and blessings that come with righteous leadership and just governance. In the context of Jesus Christ, the Messiah, this points to His reign and the abundance of blessings that flow from Him.

Continuous Prayer:The verse continues by highlighting that prayer will be made for the king continually. This emphasizes the importance of intercession and supplication on behalf of the king. It signifies the need for spiritual support, guidance, and protection. As believers, we are called to pray for our leaders, seeking God’s wisdom and favour upon them.

Daily Praise:The verse concludes by stating that the king will be praised daily. This reflects the recognition and honour given to the king for his righteous rule and his adherence to God’s commands. This echoes the call for God’s people to worship and praise Him daily, acknowledging His sovereignty and goodness.

In a Messianic sense, Psalm 72:15 finds its ultimate fulfilment in Jesus Christ. He is the perfect King, who rules with righteousness, abundance, and justice. As believers, we are called to pray for Him and His kingdom, to praise Him daily, and to recognise Him as the source of our blessings.

Overall, Psalm 72:15 teaches us about the ideal qualities of a godly ruler, the importance of continuous prayer, and the call to offer daily praise and worship to God. It reminds us of the attributes of Jesus as the Messiah and encourages us to align our lives with His righteous reign.
