Psalms 93:5
Thy testimonies are very sure: holinesse becommeth thine house, O Lord, for euer. Psalms 93:5 (KJV)
The book of Psalms is a collection of poetic songs and prayers that express a wide range of human emotions and experiences in relation to God. Psalm 93 is a hymn of praise that focuses on the Lord’s eternal reign and His supremacy over all creation. The verse begins by acknowledging the certainty and reliability of God’s testimonies. Testimonies refer to God’s words, commands, and promises found in the Scriptures. They are the divine revelations of God’s will and character. As believers, we can trust and rely on God’s testimonies because they are true and unfailing. The psalmist emphasizes that God’s testimonies are “very sure,” meaning that they are steadfast, unchanging, and dependable. Throughout history, God has proven Himself faithful in fulfilling His promises and carrying out His plans. His testimonies provide a firm foundation for our faith and a source of hope and guidance in our lives. The verse continues by stating that holiness befits God’s house. The “house” here refers to the dwelling place of God, which can symbolically represent the tabernacle or temple in Jerusalem, as well as the heavenly realm where God reigns. Holiness implies purity, perfection, and separation from sin. God’s house is a place where His holiness is displayed and honored. The psalmist affirms that holiness characterizes God’s house forever. God’s holiness is not temporary or subject to change; it is an essential and unchangeable aspect of His nature. Throughout eternity, God’s holiness will endure, and His dwelling place will reflect His perfect and holy nature. As believers, we can draw several important lessons from this verse. Firstly, we can find assurance and confidence in God’s testimonies. The Bible is the inspired Word of God, and we can rely on its teachings for guidance, wisdom, and comfort. Secondly, we are called to pursue holiness in our lives. Just as holiness befits God’s house, it should also characterize our hearts, actions, and relationships. We are to strive for purity and righteousness, reflecting God’s holiness to the world around us.
