Psalms 93:2

Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting.

Psalms 93:2 (KJV)

Psalm 93 is a royal psalm that celebrates the LORD as King over all creation. It contrasts His eternal rule with the temporary powers of the world, setting the stage for the verse’s declaration of God’s unshakable throne.

The verse proclaims that God’s throne is established of old. This means His rule is not recent; it has existed from ancient times, indeed from eternity. Unlike earthly thrones that rise and fall, God’s throne is unshakable and sovereign over all. The phrase “established of old” signifies the unchanging and eternal nature of God’s rule, emphasizing His authority and steadfast reign.

The verse continues by stating that God is from everlasting. This affirms His eternal existence, highlighting the timeless nature of His being. God has no beginning or end; He has always existed and will continue to exist for all eternity. This attribute of eternality underscores His unchanging nature and His absolute independence from all created things.

This eternal kingship finds its fulfillment in Christ, the Son of God. The New Testament reveals that His throne is established forever and His kingdom is everlasting. This connection enriches our understanding of God’s sovereign rule, showing that His purposes stand firm through all generations.

Acknowledging God’s eternal throne and everlasting nature should inspire us to submit to His rule and trust in His plans. We can find solace and confidence in knowing that our lives are held within the hands of an all-powerful and unchanging God. This truth encourages us to seek His guidance, find strength in His presence, and align our lives with His purposes.

Reading and meditating on this verse leads us to respond in worship and praise. We can acknowledge God’s eternal reign, His faithfulness throughout generations, and His unending love for His creation. As we reflect on His eternal attributes, we may express gratitude and adoration, recognizing the privilege of being part of His eternal plan.

Reflecting on this verse prompts us to consider the majesty and authority of God. It reminds us that, no matter the circumstances we face, God is in control. His throne is unassailable, and His reign is unchanging. This truth brings comfort and reassurance, especially in times of uncertainty, as we trust in His eternal wisdom and providence.
