“But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith: Romans 16:26 (KJV)”

This verse is found in the concluding chapter of the book of Romans, where the apostle Paul greets and commends various individuals within the Christian community in Rome.

In this specific verse, Paul emphasizes a crucial aspect of the gospel message and highlights the purpose of God’s revelation.

Manifestation of God’s Plan:Paul begins by proclaiming that something has now been made manifest. The term “manifest” refers to something becoming visible or known. In the context of Romans, Paul is referring to the revelation of God’s plan of salvation through Jesus Christ. In previous chapters, Paul extensively explains the gospel and God’s righteousness revealed through faith in Christ.

Confirmation in Scripture:Paul asserts that this manifestation of God’s plan is in accordance with the Scriptures of the prophets. Throughout the Old Testament, numerous prophecies foretold the coming of the Messiah, the redemption of humanity, and the establishment of God’s kingdom. The life, death, and resurrection of Jesus fulfilled these prophecies, confirming the divine plan that God had set in motion.

According to God’s Commandment:Paul adds that this revelation is in accordance with the commandment of the everlasting God. It implies that God, in His eternal wisdom and authority, orchestrated the fulfillment of His plan precisely as He had commanded. The salvation offered through Jesus Christ is not a human invention but a divine decree, highlighting the sovereignty and faithfulness of God.

Universal Revelation:Paul further emphasizes that this revelation is made known to all nations. The gospel is not limited to a specific ethnic or cultural group but is intended for people from every nation, ethnicity, and background. God’s redemptive plan extends to all humanity, demonstrating His love and desire for everyone to be saved.

Purpose:Paul concludes the verse by stating that the purpose of this revelation is “for the obedience of faith.” The gospel is not merely information to be acknowledged but a truth to be embraced and obeyed. Through faith in Christ, people are called to respond obediently to God’s message, placing their trust in Jesus and living a life in accordance with His teachings.

In summary, Romans 16:26 encapsulates the core elements of the gospel message. It reveals the manifestation of God’s plan of salvation, its confirmation in the Scriptures, its alignment with God’s commandment, its universal nature, and its purpose of calling people to obedient faith. It serves as a reminder of God’s sovereignty, His faithfulness to His promises, and His desire for all people to come to know and trust in Jesus Christ.
