1 Chronicles 13:5
So David gathered all Israel together, from Shihor of Egypt even unto the entering of Hemath, to bring the ark of God from Kirjath–jearim.

Context
David had recently become king over all Israel. One of his first desires was to bring the ark of God to Jerusalem. The ark was a sacred chest that represented God’s presence among His people. It had stayed in Kirjath-jearim for many years after the Philistines returned it (1 Samuel 7:1). David called the whole nation together for this task.
The gathering stretched from the Shihor of Egypt to the entrance of Hamath. These places marked the full extent of the land God had given Israel. So this was not a small event. Every tribe and region was invited to take part. The whole nation shared in the work of honoring God.
Meaning
David’s action shows his deep longing for God’s presence. He did not want the ark to remain forgotten in a remote town. He wanted it at the center of the nation’s life. By moving the ark to Jerusalem, David made the city both the political and religious heart of Israel. His motive was to honor God and to place worship at the center of national life.
The verse also shows David’s humility. He did not act alone. The following verses record that he consulted the leaders and the assembly of Israel. He sought their agreement and guidance. This teaches that even a king should not make important spiritual decisions without the support of God’s people.

This event is also recorded in 2 Samuel 6:1-11. The two accounts agree on the main facts, though they differ in small details. Both show that David’s desire to honor God was genuine. The ark’s long stay in Kirjath-jearim reminds us that God’s presence can be neglected for many years. David’s initiative was a fresh start for the nation’s worship.
