2 Chronicles 2:12

Huram said moreover, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who hath given to David the king a wise son, endued with prudence and understanding, that might build an house for the Lord, and an house for his kingdom.

2 Chronicles 2:12 (KJV)

This verse records the reply of Huram, also called Hiram, king of Tyre, to Solomon’s request for materials and skilled workers to build the temple. Huram was a foreign ruler, yet he spoke a blessing on the Lord God of Israel. His words show that he recognized God as the Creator of heaven and earth, a confession of divine power over all things. This recognition is striking because Huram did not belong to the covenant community, yet he saw and acknowledged the true God.

Huram praised God for giving David a wise son, Solomon, who was “endued with prudence and understanding.” This wisdom was not for personal honor but for a specific purpose: to build a house for the Lord and a house for his kingdom. The first house is the temple, the place of God’s presence among His people. The second house is the royal palace, which stood for the stability of Solomon’s reign. Both projects together show that divine insight and practical skill work together to fulfill God’s plans. The wisdom given to Solomon was a divine gift, not a natural ability, and it was meant for the work God had called him to do.

This verse connects with the earlier record in 1 Kings 5, where Huram first agreed to help Solomon. It also echoes the prayer of Solomon in 1 Kings 3, where he asked God for wisdom to govern. Here, that wisdom is seen as a gift from God, given for the building work. The recognition by a foreign king shows that God’s blessing on Israel was visible to the nations around them. It also reminds us that God equips those He calls to a task, providing the wisdom and ability needed to complete it.

For believers today, this verse teaches that God equips those He calls. When God gives a task, He also gives the wisdom and ability to complete it. Like Solomon, we should use our gifts to honor God, building a spiritual “house” in our hearts where His presence dwells. Our work, whether in the church or in daily life, can be part of His kingdom purposes. When we serve with wisdom from God, others may see His hand and give Him glory. We are called to acknowledge that every good gift, including wisdom and skill, comes from the Lord.

Huram’s blessing reminds us that God’s work is not hidden. Even those outside the faith can recognize God’s hand when we serve with His wisdom. Let us use what He has given us to build what honors Him, trusting that He will supply all we need for the tasks He sets before us.
