2 Chronicles 18 recounts the alliance between King Jehoshaphat of Judah and King Ahab of Israel. Jehoshaphat visits Ahab in Samaria, and Ahab proposes going to war against Ramoth-gilead. Jehoshaphat suggests seeking guidance from the Lord before engaging in battle, so Ahab summons his prophets who all prophesy victory. Jehoshaphat asks if there is a prophet of the Lord available, and Ahab mentions Micaiah, but admits he dislikes him because he always prophesies evil concerning him.
Micaiah is summoned, and although initially pressured by Ahab's messenger to align his prophecy with the other prophets, Micaiah boldly declares God's true message. He foretells Israel's defeat and Ahab's death in battle. Ahab dismisses Micaiah and decides to go to war regardless. Jehoshaphat expresses concern but is assured by Ahab's false prophets.
In the ensuing battle, Ahab disguises himself, while Jehoshaphat wears his royal attire. However, God directs an arrow to strike Ahab, piercing through his armor, and he dies. Jehoshaphat miraculously escapes harm.
