2 Chronicles 26:13

Posted on 18 May at 11:38

“And under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.”

This verse is part of the account of King Uzziah’s reign in the book of 2 Chronicles. King Uzziah, also known as Azariah, was one of the kings of Judah. He began his reign at the age of sixteen and reigned for a total of fifty-two years. Throughout much of his reign, he sought to follow the ways of the Lord, and as a result, he experienced great success and prosperity.

In verse 13, we see that under Uzziah’s authority, there was a well‑equipped and formidable army. The verse describes the size of the army as “three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred.” This signifies a considerable military force, which highlights the strength and power of King Uzziah’s kingdom.

The purpose of this army was to defend the king and the kingdom against enemies. It was a force capable of making war with “mighty power.” This demonstrates the preparedness of King Uzziah to protect his land and people from potential threats.

Responsibility of Leadership:King Uzziah understood the importance of having a well‑organized and capable army to safeguard his kingdom. As a leader, he took responsibility for the protection and welfare of his people. This teaches us the significance of wise and responsible leadership, whether it be in a political, organisational, or familial setting.

Preparedness:Uzziah’s investment in a powerful military force reflects the importance of being prepared for potential challenges and threats. As believers, we are called to be spiritually prepared and equipped to face the spiritual battles that may come our way. Ephesians 6:11‑12 encourages us to put on the whole armour of God to withstand the schemes of the enemy.

Unity and Support:The army mentioned in this verse was there to “help the king against the enemy.” This highlights the value of unity and support within a community or a kingdom. Likewise, in the body of Christ, we are called to support and stand with one another, fighting the spiritual battles together as a united front.

While this verse specifically addresses the military strength of King Uzziah, it is important to remember that the ultimate strength and protection come from God. Regardless of the earthly means of defence, our trust should be placed in the Lord. Proverbs 21:31 reminds us that “The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the Lord.”

In conclusion, 2 Chronicles 26:13 portrays King Uzziah’s military power and his preparedness to defend his kingdom. It emphasises the importance of responsible leadership, preparedness, unity, and trust in God’s ultimate protection.
