“The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof.”

Certainly! Here’s a Bible study on Psalm 97:1 (KJV):Psalm 97:1 (KJV) says: “The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof.”

1. Context: Psalm 97 is a song of praise and rejoicing in the Lord’s reign and His righteousness. It emphasizes God’s sovereignty, His judgment over the earth, and the joy that should result from recognizing His rule.

2. The LORD reigneth: This verse begins with a powerful declaration that the LORD reigns. It highlights God’s position as the supreme ruler over all creation. The reign of the LORD signifies His authority, power, and control over everything in the universe.

3. Let the earth rejoice: The psalmist calls for the earth to rejoice in response to the reign of the LORD. This rejoicing is an expression of joy, gratitude, and celebration. It implies that the earth recognizes and responds to God’s rule with joy and gladness.

4. Let the multitude of isles be glad thereof: The phrase “multitude of isles” refers to the distant coastal regions or islands. It suggests that the entire world, even the remote and far-off places, should be glad and rejoice because of the LORD’s reign. The psalmist emphasizes that God’s sovereignty extends to every corner of the earth.

Key Lessons:

– God’s reign: The verse reminds us that God is the ultimate ruler and authority over all things. He exercises His dominion over the earth, and His sovereignty brings order, justice, and righteousness.

– Joyful response: The psalmist calls for a joyful response to God’s reign. Recognizing God’s authority and rule should fill our hearts with joy and gladness. It is a reminder that our response to God’s sovereignty should be one of rejoicing and celebration.

– Universal reach: The psalmist highlights that God’s reign extends to all places, including remote and distant regions. There is no corner of the earth that is beyond His rule. This truth emphasizes the universality of God’s sovereignty and His concern for all people.

Application:

– Acknowledge God’s reign: Take time to reflect on God’s sovereignty over your life and over the world. Recognize His authority and submit to His rule.

– Rejoice in the Lord: Cultivate an attitude of joy and gratitude in response to God’s reign. Let your heart be filled with joy as you consider the greatness of God and His loving rule over your life.

– Share the good news: Just as the psalmist calls the earth and the distant isles to be glad, we can share the good news of God’s reign with others. Spread the message of God’s sovereignty, His love, and His desire for all people to know Him.
