Ezekiel 34:24

Posted on 18 May at 14:11
Listen to this article

“And I the LORD will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them; I the LORD have spoken it.”

This verse is part of a larger passage in the book of Ezekiel where God addresses the leaders of Israel, particularly the shepherds who were responsible for caring for the people.

However, instead of fulfilling their duties faithfully, these shepherds had been neglecting and exploiting the flock, leading to the scattering and suffering of the people.

In this specific verse, God declares His intention to restore and care for His people Himself. He says, “I the LORD will be their God.” This statement reaffirms God’s covenant relationship with Israel.

Despite the failures of their earthly shepherds, God assures His people that He will take on the role of their ultimate Shepherd and provide for them.

The verse also mentions “my servant David.” This is a reference to the promised Messiah, who would come from the lineage of David. Jesus Christ, who is often referred to as the Son of David, is the ultimate fulfilment of this prophecy.

He is the perfect Shepherd who leads His people and cares for them with love and compassion.

Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus offers salvation and eternal life to all who believe in Him.

When God says that David will be a prince among them, it symbolises the position of authority and leadership that the Messiah, Jesus Christ, will hold.

He will not only be the Shepherd but also a ruling prince, guiding His people with wisdom and righteousness.

Overall, Ezekiel 34:24 speaks of God’s faithfulness and His commitment to care for His people. It points forward to the coming of Jesus Christ, who fulfils the role of the Good Shepherd, providing guidance, protection, and salvation to all who trust in Him.
