Esther 5:1

Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, over against the king’s house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house.

Context

The Book of Esther takes place in the Persian Empire under King Ahasuerus, also known as Xerxes I, who ruled over many provinces from India to Ethiopia. The Jews were living in exile, and Esther, a Jewish woman, had become queen. Before this moment, Esther had learned of Haman’s plot to destroy her people. She asked the Jews to fast for three days, and she and her maids also fasted. On the third day, she acted.

Meaning

Esther put on her royal apparel and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, across from the king’s house. The king sat on his royal throne in the royal house, facing the gate. Approaching the king without being summoned was dangerous; the penalty could be death unless he extended his golden scepter. Esther had not been called to the king for thirty days, so her action carried great risk. Her royal clothing was not just fine fabric; it declared her identity and position as queen. Standing in the inner court placed her where the king could see her, yet she did not rush forward. She waited for his response. This positioning was deliberate, showing both vulnerability and purpose.

Biblical connections
