Esther 5:2
“And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre.”
This verse is part of the narrative in the book of Esther, which tells the story of a Jewish woman named Esther who becomes the queen of Persia and plays a crucial role in saving her people from destruction.
In Esther 5:2, we witness a pivotal moment in the story. Esther, in her role as queen, takes a risk by approaching King Ahasuerus (also known as Xerxes I) without being summoned. According to Persian custom, approaching the king without an invitation could lead to severe consequences, even death. However, Esther displays great courage and faith as she enters the court and stands before the king.
The verse describes how, upon seeing Esther in the court, the king is pleased with her presence and extends his favour toward her. He holds out his golden scepter, a symbol of his authority and power, as an invitation for Esther to approach him. The fact that the king offers her the scepter signifies that she has found favour in his eyes and is granted the opportunity to make her request.
Esther’s response is one of respect and humility. She draws near to the king and touches the top of the scepter, acknowledging his authority and seeking his permission to speak. By doing so, Esther demonstrates her obedience to the king and her understanding of the protocol in approaching him.
This verse highlights the significance of Esther’s courageous act and the favourable response she receives from the king. It sets the stage for the critical request she is about to make, which will ultimately lead to the salvation of her people.
From a spiritual perspective, Esther’s actions can serve as a powerful lesson in faith, trust, and obedience. She puts her own life at risk in order to intercede on behalf of her people, showing unwavering faith in God’s providence. Her willingness to step out in faith, even in the face of potential danger, demonstrates her commitment to fulfilling her purpose and playing her part in God’s plan.
Esther’s story encourages believers to take bold steps, relying on God’s guidance and trusting in His favour. It reminds us that when we align ourselves with God’s will and exhibit unwavering faith, He can open doors of opportunity and bring about remarkable outcomes.
In summary, Esther 5:2 portrays the pivotal moment when Queen Esther approaches the king and finds favour in his sight. Her act of courage and obedience sets the stage for the unfolding events that will ultimately lead to the deliverance of her people. It serves as a testament to the power of faith, trust, and obedience in fulfilling God’s purpose.
