Job Chapter 28

Summery

Job 28 is a poetic exploration of the value and mystery of wisdom, comparing it to the search for precious metals and gems. The chapter begins with Job reflecting on humanity's ability to uncover riches hidden within the earth, such as silver and gold. Miners toil tirelessly, going to great lengths to extract these precious resources from the depths of the earth.

Job then shifts his focus to wisdom, asking where it can be found and how it can be acquired. He acknowledges that wisdom is not easily obtained, and it cannot be purchased with earthly wealth. It is not found in the land of the living nor in the deepest oceans. Even the birds of prey and beasts of the field do not possess it.

Despite the vastness of the earth and the heights of the heavens, Job realizes that true wisdom can only be found in God. It is God alone who understands the way to wisdom and has laid it out for humanity to discover. Job acknowledges that the fear of the Lord, reverence and respect for God, is the beginning of wisdom.
