Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Context

Proverbs 31 closes the book of Proverbs with a poem about the “virtuous woman” or “excellent wife.” King Lemuel wrote these words from the teaching of his mother. The poem is an acrostic, each line beginning with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. It describes a woman who is diligent, trustworthy, and wise. She cares for her family, manages her household, and even buys fields and plants vineyards. This final verse is the conclusion of that poem, summarizing the honor her labor deserves.

Meaning

The phrase “fruit of her hands” means the results of her work. Her hands have been busy with many tasks, and the fruit is the good outcome of all that effort. It includes both what she provides for her family and the respect she earns in her community. The verse says to give her this fruit, meaning she should receive what her labor has earned.
