Context

Psalm 105 is a historical psalm that recounts God’s covenant faithfulness to Israel. The first phrase, “Until the time that his word came,” points to the fulfillment of the dreams God gave Joseph in his youth, where he saw himself ruling over his family (Genesis 37:7-10). The second phrase, “the word of the LORD tried him,” means that the divine promise itself became the means of testing Joseph. While he waited, he endured slavery, false accusation, and prison (Genesis 39-40). The testing was not only outward hardship; it was a refining process that proved Joseph’s faithfulness and prepared him for the role God had planned. Joseph’s experience shows a contrast between his own word and God’s word. In prison, Joseph interpreted the dreams of Pharaoh’s butler and baker, but his own release was delayed until God’s appointed time. These challenges refine our character, strengthen our faith, and prepare us for the tasks God has for us. God is with us in the midst of our trials, and He will bring us through them.

God’s sovereignty is at work in our lives. Joseph’s life is a powerful example of how God works even in adversity. The trials he faced were not accidental or without purpose; God was working through those circumstances to accomplish His greater plan. We can take comfort in knowing that God is in control and is working all things together for our good.

Reflection

When we wait for God’s word to be fulfilled, we can remember that the waiting itself is part of His purpose. The same God who was with Joseph in prison is with us in our own seasons of testing. His word will not fail, and His timing is perfect. Trust in God’s timing and view trials as opportunities for growth, knowing that His word will ultimately come to pass.
